President Muhammadu Buhari orders IGP not to invite Senator Adeleke before election

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police, not to invite Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state, before Saturday.

The police had asked Adeleke to immediately appear at the force headquarters in Abuja over alleged examination malpractice.

But a presidential source told reporters on Wednesday that Buhari had ordered the IGP not to go ahead with the invitation until the governorship election is over.

Senator Adeleke is one of the four strong contenders in Saturday’s exercise. Earlier, Jimoh Moshood, force public relations officer, said Adeleke would be charged to court over examination malpractice, criminal conspiracy, impersonation, and breach of duty.

Moshood said Adeleke connived with four persons identified as Sikiru Adeleke, Aregbesola Mufutau (principal of Ojo-Aro Community Grammar School, Egbedore LGA, Osun), Gbadamosi Thomas Ojo (school official responsible for the registration of candidates for NECO), and Dare Olutope (school teacher who facilitated the crime).

He had asked them to report to the special investigation panel at the force headquarters in Abuja.

A jealous wife has been jailed for  stabbing her husband seven times in rage after he boasted about cheating on her.

Deborah Rose age 47, attacked her husband by John throwing a vase, jug of milk and vacuum cleaner at him before grabbing the kitchen knife.

The lady who is said to be a mother of three had been jailed for six years over the assault that unfolded at the couple’s home in Deal, Kent, in February this year.

Canterbury Crown Court heard the married couple had romped before Mr Rose admitted to seeing another woman – with his furious wife shouting “I’m gonna kill you” and stabbing him seven times in the back, leg and arm.

Mr Rose staggered out of the flat into a nearby pub where staff called for an ambulance, before he was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He suffered a collapsed lung and a stab wound to his liver, but managed to survive the attack. Judge James O’Mahony last week jailed Rose after she admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He said: “He thought he was going to die. You didn’t call an ambulance.

“The incident lasted just over an hour.

“Such was the force with which you stabbed him that when the knife came into contact with bone, it smashed the bone as well.”

It was also added that Rose cut up her husband’s clothes in the fit of fury. Rose was arrested after her husband was airlifted to a London hospital for treatment.

Tragedy As Flood submerges five communities, rice mill in Benue State

The Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency(BSEMA), Emmanuel Shior said on Wednesday that the rampaging flood has submerged five communities in Agatu and other parts of Makurdi, the state capital.

Shior disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Makurdi on the current flood situation in the state, adding that Rice Mill and other settlements on the banks of River Benue were also affected. He said that the state government had taken proactive measures, including setting up a committee to sensitise the people of the state on the dangers ahead.

He said that the committee consists of officials drawn from SEMA, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Information and other stakeholders in the state.  Shior said that SEMA, in conjunction with NEMA and other stakeholders, had embarked on an awareness campaign in the media, churches and Mosques. He said that the campaign was intended to encourage residents of flood prone areas to relocate to safer areas.

The BSEMA boss said that the latest check with a guage showed that the water level at the River Benue had risen to 11 metres, barely one meter to its maximum level. According to him, the water has virtually reached the level that caused flooding in 2012, during which most parts of the state were submerged.  He advised residents to steer clear from the river because of the high level, saying that 12 metres was the highest level that could cause disaster in any state.

He said that centres in the state, including the International Market, had been prepared to accommodate displaced persons.  In his remark, Mr Lugard Slaku , the Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for North Central, said that 12 states, including Benue, had been listed as most threatened by flood in the country.

“So we have come with a team trained by NEMA to collaborate with SEMA to assess the situation, check the available facilities and gaps and report back to the head office for additional resources, where needed.” Slaku said.

Slaku said that while NEMA, SEMA and other stakeholders were working hard to ensure prompt response to distres calls, the people must cooperate with government to prevent avoidable disaster.

Online Chat Rooms: The Latest Pros and Cons

Online dating has simplified the task of finding a partner for a serious relationship. In fact, you can find a person for any type of relation, even if you have specific relationship and dating preferences, like interracial dating, black dating, or anything else. When black dating is what floats your boat, you will be much better off hitting a site dedicated to black singles and couples.

The problem is that not all dating sites are going to help you connect with the right dating partner. So many of those sites have no system in place to confirm if the person on the other side is from the same ethnic background as they claim.

To overcome this hurdle, you need to be on sites where they have a sophisticated chat room in place. Sites like QuickFlirt.com take their reputation seriously, so they always take steps to ensure that only real people get on to their sites to connect with others.

If you choose to select black dating section, they ensure exactly that is what you get. They also encourage their users to connect with their potential match in their chat room and ask anything they want to double-check if the other person meets your
standards and requirements.

The chat room functionality has its own set of benefits. For instance:

 You do not have to worry about spending a lot of money when taking advantage of a dating site and chat rooms. Most of these chat rooms are free to use. All you have to do is register yourself and create a profile on a correct dating platform and you are all set to use their chat room.

 You do not always need to reveal your correct information when starting your conversation and this gives you the time and liberty to talk about stuff that matters to you a lot.

A quick chat here will help you know if the other person is from the ethnic background that you require.

 You can contact the other person and receive a reply in real time. There is no need to send an email and wait for ages to get a reply. It means the chat rooms offer a quick way to connect and communicate.

 You can ask any question about their identity and, if the other person has started trusting you, they may reply in a positive way. This simple question/answer session can work wonders to establish trust between two people.

 Modern day chat rooms are highly sophisticated and feature rich at the same time. It means you can communicate in a more effective and efficient way. You can use special effects and other features to convey your message and share exactly what you feel about certain things.

 You can use your time in a chat room to decide more about the mentality of the other person. If the other person is pressurizing you to discuss topics that you’re not comfortable with, it shows that you’re in conversation with someone who is trying to take advantage of you. If they are delving deeper into the gory details of their past relationships, you know that you’re in touch with a wrong person.

If it does not feel comfortable talking to that person, you’re surely going to regret your decision of meeting them
face-to-face.

There are benefits of online chat rooms, but sometimes, you may end up being deceived by a real player. Some people are so irresistible because they know how to use their words. They can trick you into making the move and plan a face-to-face meeting.

If you take the bait, you often end up getting in trouble. Not using a correct dating site, for black dating in particular, can also haunt you in a big way. They may have chat rooms but they entertain open conversations with no moderation. These types of chat rooms do not help you much in establishing a good rapport
with someone you like. Therefore, it is important to pick a right site from the word go, select the right section, and then hope for things to turn in your favor.

Quick Facts Everyone Must Know Before Visiting Computer Village In Otigba, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria

Computer Village is the largest information and communication technology accessory market in Africa located in Otigba, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

It sits on land originally planned by the Lagos State Government to be a residential area. Today, despite her many challenges it serves as the largest marketplace for tech gadgets in Nigeria. Much of Computer Village troubles range from theft to sale of counterfeit or unlicensed products and a government bent on relocating it, regardless, the economic impact is undisputable.

According to a former minister, Computer village generates about $2 billion annually; the community also generates over 60 million naira in levies for the Ikeja metropolitan area.

A quick visit to computer village would leave you astonished as to the hundreds of young adults working across different layers of the service sectors. Some are marketers feeding the technicians with customers needing gadget repairs and equally feeding the sellers with buyers.

It’s an amazing ecosystem! However don’t be fooled, you could easily get your hands burnt in computer village. Many today have sour tales of purchase gone wrong. Numerous times, the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) has had to raid the community. Personally, I have also had my own fair share of awry experiences at Computer Village, but today isn’t the time for story telling.

As His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode reemphasized the Government’s age long stance to relocate Computer Village to Kantagora in Abule Egba area of the State, the news has been greeted with nostalgia in Lagos. Some are of the opinion the state should retain her initial master plan designating the area as a residential place, while others especially in the business community think computer village in her present community could be transformed and remodeled into a hive of innovation and a hub for tech startups.

Today, in the business community a number of strategic meetings are taking place to see if the current Computer Village can be salvaged. This is important because much of the growth of computer village has been fueled by creativity, spontaneity and deregulation. In contrast today, Silicon valley, California is home to the world’s leading tech companies such as Apple, HP, Adobe, Twitter, Facebook etc. Silicon Valley has enriched her metropolitan area so much so that the combination of San Jose, Santa Clara and southern bay’s GDP of $235 billion is nearly equal to Ireland’s entire GDP of $238 Billion. Silicon Valley is also home to 74 billionaires in USD. A combination of Apple and Facebook employ about 44,000 people.

Can the Computer Village of Otigba community become Nigeria’s Silicon Valley?

Whatever the outcome may become in the near future, one thing is clear, individuals working in Computer Village are averse to the idea of relocating to Kantagora. It is in fact unclear whether the Computer Village we know can be replicated elsewhere. Whatever the case, if it survives it would be a product of a deliberate attempt to save it by the Government and private sector. Its impact will be phenomenal!

Beautiful Nigerian actress, Rahama Sadau, has opened up on how she almost got married at the very young age of 13.

Kannywood actress, Rahama Sadau, who recently gained her grounds in Nollywood, due to a sanction ban for the Northern movies practitioners, has been speaking about her life as an actor, and on the issue of child marriage.

Asked what she had done or what she thinks can be done to change the perspective of getting children into marriage at an early age in the Northern part, the actress revealed that even she almost got married at the age of 13.
“Some of us have been fighting against early marriage and girl child education, though it is a very sensitive issue. Whenever you talk against early child marriage, religion will definitely come in. So, it is very sensitive.

“On my part, I’m trying to create awareness by sitting with parents to enlighten them. In my own case, I almost got married at the age of 13. So many things happened. But we are working on it.”
On how she survived that period, she said: “For me, I will always be grateful to my mum. She always wants us to achieve.”
Rahama Sadau is a Nigerian Hausa actress, who has won several awards for her prowess in the movie industry.

In 2016, she was reported to be featuring in a movie series on EbonyLife TV, and was subsequently banned from the Hausa film industry (Kannywood), by the Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) due to her performance in a music video.
MOPPAN argued that the “hugging and cuddling” in the video was offensive. Conservative Muslim clerics have accused the Kannywood film industry of corrupting people’s values

Rahama won Best Actress (Kannywood) at the City People Entertainment Awards in 2014 and 2015. She also won Best African Actress at the 19th African Film Awards in 2015 by African Voice.

In 2017, she became the first Hausa speaking female celebrity to appear in the top ten Hottest Female Nigeria Celebrities.

Osun State 2018 Rerun: See Why Omisore’s Statement Is The Final Nail On Apc’s Coffin

What Omisore Said and what It means for Adeleke Today

The last time i met Omisore was in the lead up to re election of a governor from the North, he had come to show support to a colleague he had known for many years . One thing that has defined the political career of the former Deputy Governor of Osun state is his persistent decision to always stand with the oppressed. A proper X- ray his statement released earlier today shows that nothing has changed. An extract of the statement is presented below:

Omisore firmly states that he will never renege on his promise of good governance, accountability and human dignity in Osun state.”

“I am telling my people that they should go with any political party that believes in what we in the SDP stand for: good governance, social justice and accountability. I have already detailed how we planned to restore Osun to the path of good governance through the five thematic pillars in the manifesto I shared during the electioneering. I will not negotiate for personal gains and abandon my people.

“My alliance is with the people of Osun state irrespective of the political party they belong. I want my people to be treated with the dignity they deserve. I desire that they have a government that will be accountable to them. I want them to experience the good governance the founding fathers of this state envisaged.

The Five Major Things Omisore Wants For his People In Osun

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Outgoing government of Osun state is one of the most unaccountable in the History of Nigeria. Although domiciled in Osun the government of the state of Osun as it wants to be called, throughout its lifetime was only answerable to the “Lord” of Bourdilon and never to the good people of Osun it was meant to serve.

On the 6th of January 2018, Omisore said “Osun government remains unaccountable for the Paris Club refund, yet it has the audacity to present a budget it can neither fund nor execute. The examination of the feasibility and credibility of public sector budgets is a matter for everyone, in which the current Osun state budget not only an indication of incompetence and bankruptcy, but also reflects absolute lack of knowledge of public financing and appropriations process.

“It remains very sad that after almost 8 years of the Rauf Aregbesola-led APC government in the state, its leadership still whines in its incompetent game of blaming previous administration, a glaring sign of its inability to respond to the budget issues raised”,Omisore stressed.

When it comes to ACCOUNTABILITY it appears Omisore has already told his People to Vote Adeleke and PDP

GOOD GOVERNANCE

According to Wikipedia, good governance is an indeterminate term used in the international development literature to describe how public institutions conduct public affairs and manage public resources. Under APC, Osun state became the poster child for bad governance and misplaced priorities. A citadel of white elephant projects despite over 500 Billion in Debt.
This is what Omisore has to say about APC when it comes to GOOD GOVERNANCE[b] ” My ultimate ambition for seeking to govern the state is predicated on the determination to set the state free from the economic bondage and bad governance foisted on the state by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

HUMAN DIGNITY

When you ask a Nigerian to name two state where the peoples suffering is palpable despite huge allocations, Osun will likely be on their lips , it is a state where PhD holders and university professors have resorted begging to mark WAEC scripts just to feed their families owing to the nonpayment of salaries for years.
The story of a mother of six aptly describes the pitiable condition and the hardship the people are currently living under. This mother went to a market far from her area, to buy foodstuffs, and she had to give one of her children in exchange. Unknown to the seller, the family had been starving for days before this woman took this decision to save her remaining children from hunger. Thanks to overloaded contract sums for White elephant projects.

I Will Not Negotiate for Personal Gains

The decision of Dr Omisore not to negotiate with APC for personal gains despite being offered Immunity from EFCC, ministerial slot and or Senatorial ticket underscores his disdain for the havoc APC wrecked on Osun for 8 years.

Many in Osun think the battle against those who foisted hunger on the people is already won but that will be a huge mistake!!! A leprous finger from your tormentors tomorrow can alter the table and foist modulated salaries on you for another 4 years so tell everyone who needs to vote to go out and ensure that light prevailed over darkness.

The Decision before the people of Osun tomorrow and the voters in the remaining polling units where elections will take place is between

1. Unpaid salaries of the APC and the prompt payment of Salaries

2. A choice between a party that is known for massive job creation and a party that promised 3 million jobs annually but ended up sending over 4 Million Nigerians to the unemployment market in a single year.

3. The decision the voters will make tomorrow is between a party that promised innocent children school feeding with nothing on their plates after 3.5 years and a party that built 12 universities in 2 years which today admits thousand of admission seekers and employ thousands of graduates including the returning officer of Saturdays election.

Omisore has told his people what to do it’s up to them to complete the good work they started on Saturday!

May God the maker of Heaven and Earth, help the good People of Osun to help themselves!

May God Bless The Federal Republic of Nigeria

“The tenure of human positions, no matter how highly exalted will eventually come to an end. Only Gods tenure is eternal”

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday expressed his readiness to participate in Saturday’s Primary Election where members of the All Progressives Congress across the State are expected to choose the party’s flagbearer through direct primaries.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, the Governor said he is restating his readiness in line with the choice of the party in Lagos State and the validation given to the direct primary preference by the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC).

“As our great party approaches Saturday, September 29th, 2018, earmarked for the direct primary election to choose the candidate to fly our party’s gubernatorial flag at the next general election, I am happy to restate my commitment to participate in that process having procured and submitted my nomination form and having formally declared my intention to seek a second term to continue on the path of unprecedented growth and development that our State has witnessed since 2015”.

The Governor expressed profound gratitude to the National Leader of the Party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; party elders and executives; GAC members; all APC members and every Lagosian “whose support, understanding and prayers have assisted me in no small measure in being used as an instrument through which our State has redefined the concept of greatness”.

The statement added that the Governor in seeking re-election is approaching the founding fathers and teeming members of the party with a “grateful heart, open arms and a pledge to open and deeper attention to the concerns of this one, big family”.

It added that a return of the party’s ticket to Governor Ambode will guarantee the stability of the State’s growing economy; ensure the continuation of the growth and development it has witnessed over time and ensure that the opposition does not take root in the State.

The statement congratulates the Governor’s co-contestants for the courage and commitment to the party and urges party faithfuls to come out en masse and vote peacefully in all the 20 Local Governments and 245 wards where the election will take place.

Femi Fani-Kayode Slams Omisore For Declaring Support For APC:‘Shame On You’

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has slammed the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore, for declaring his support for the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of Thursday’s governorship rerun in Osun State.

Omisore had on Thursday announced his decision to pitch his tent with the APC after consultations with his party members.

He was reportedly quoted as saying, “After due consultations with my party leadership and members in all the 30 local government areas of Osun State, we have accepted to support the APC for victory in the rerun election tomorrow and thereafter form a coalition government.”

Fani Kayode while describing Omisore’s decision as ‘shameful,’ criticized him for supporting APC after he had assured the PDP of his support.

According to him, Omisore’s decision might deny Ile-Ife an opportunity of producing a Deputy Governor.

He tweeted,

Iyiola Omisore’s decision to support the APC in tomorrow’s rerun is shameful. It is sad that he would seek to deny Ile-Ife the position of Dep. Gov simply for money. He told me he would stand firm 2 days ago and he told our father Baba Ayo Adebanjo the same thing last night.

I do not know what has turned his head but we shall forge ahead and by God’s grace Adeleke will win. There is no excuse or justification for joining or supporting those who treated our people like filth and slaves over the last 8 years and who rigged last Saturday’s election.

It was a wonderful sight to behold as Aisha Buhari and daughter cheered President Buhari on after his speech at the UN.

President Muhammadu Buhari was cheered by his wife Dr. Aisha and his daughter Halima after delivering his address at the General Debate of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York yesterday.

The pleased family members couldn’t hide their happiness and admiration for him as they publicly showed their joy after the speech.

Read His Speech Below:

President Buhari  in New York unfolded Nigeria’s positions on international matters before the global audience. Presenting Nigeria’s National Statement during the opening day of the General Debate of the 73rd Session of the United Nation’s General Assembly (UNGA73), the President first paid glowing tributes to the late seventh UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, for his invaluable contributions to global peace.

According to him, “We in Africa, while mourning the loss of this great son of ours and citizen of the world, take pride in the way he served humanity in a truly exemplary manner. He demonstrated, in his calm but determined manner, the virtues of compassion, dedication to the cause of justice, fairness and human rights. He was a visionary leader who inspired hope even in the face of the most daunting challenges. He devoted his entire life’s career to the UN and the pursuit of its ideals and goals. The world is indeed a better place thanks to his exemplary service.”

President Buhari, while noting that in the past year, the world saw some positive results and encouraging signs from the bilateral and multilateral efforts of the international community to address conflicts, crises and threats to world peace, commended “the efforts of the leaders of the United States, North Korea and South Korea, to realise our shared goal of a nuclear free Korean Peninsula.”

He also acknowledged the commitment to peace shown by President Donald Trump and Chairman Kim Jong-Un by initiating a historic Summit, urging both leaders to “continue this positive engagement.”
Expressing regret about some lingering threats to peace and security around the world, the President noted that in some cases, matters got worse. “The continuing plight of the Rohingyas in Myanmar, the protracted Israeli/Palestinian conflict, the wars in Yemen, and Syria, and the fight against international and local terrorism such as Boko Haram and Al-Shabaab come to mind,” he said.

According to President Buhari, “The terrorist insurgencies we face, particularly in the Sahel and the Lake Chad Basin, are partly fuelled by local factors and dynamics, but now increasingly by the international Jihadi Movement, runaway fighters from Iraq and Syria and arms from the disintegration of Libya.

“In Myanmar, the carnage appears to have thankfully abated somewhat. We commend the United Nations for staying focussed on the situation of the Rohingya people, to bring their suffering to an end, and hold to account the perpetrators of the atrocious crimes committed against innocent and vulnerable members of this community, including women, children and the old.”

Calling on the international community to strengthen its resolve to combat ethnic and religious cleansing everywhere, the President expressed Nigeria’s support for “the UN’s efforts in ensuring that the Rohingya refugees are allowed to return to their homes in Myanmar with security, protection, and guarantee of citizenship. We note the indication by the Government of Myanmar of its willingness to address these issues and we encourage them to do so expeditiously.”

He also commended the “Government and people of Bangladesh in particular and all other countries and organizations that have contributed to shouldering the burden of providing shelter and other vital assistance to the Rohingya Refugees.”
Drawing the attention of the international community to the “carnage and the worsening humanitarian situations in Syria and Yemen,” the Nigerian leader cautioned that “the international community cannot afford to give up on the Syrian and Yemeni people. We must pursue all efforts to find peaceful negotiated political solutions to these wars which cannot be won by force of arms alone. Regarding Syria, we hope that the UN sponsored Geneva process and the Sochi initiative, led by Russia, Iran, and Turkey advance this objective.”

He added that, “The International community must keep up the pressure to encourage the parties to pursue the path of dialogue, negotiations and inclusiveness in resolving their sectarian divides and bringing to an end the immense human suffering in Syria as well as Yemen. We commend Turkey, Jordan, Greece, Germany, Italy and France for hosting the millions of the refugees fleeing these brutal conflicts.”

On the worsening Middle East conflict, President Buhari called “on the Israelis and the Palestinians to make the necessary compromises in the interest of justice, peace and security, in line with our numerous UN resolutions and applicable international laws.”
Observing that, “Unilateral, arbitrary and insensitive actions only prolong the conflict and undermine world peace and security,” he attributed the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza to the “appalling result of unrestrained use of power.”

Nigeria, the President said, “urge both parties to re-engage in dialogue on the basis of relevant UN resolutions, the Madrid Principles, the Quartet Roadmap and the Arab Peace Initiative, among others.”
He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s “unwavering support for a just two-state solution, negotiated without intimidation and with Israel and Palestine existing side-by-side in peace and security.”

Citing the current peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea, and the commitment towards peace between Djibouti and Somalia, President Buhari declared:
“I believe that with hard work, commitment, and a disposition to compromise and necessary sacrifices, peace is achievable in the Middle East as well.”
On irregular migration which he admitted “entails huge avoidable loss of human lives, puts strains on services in host countries and communities, and fuels anti-immigrant and racist sentiments in Europe,” the Nigerian President welcomed the successful conclusion of the negotiations on the first-ever Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, and looked forward to its adoption in Marrakech later this year. He said the “aim is to protect the rights of migrants worldwide, while addressing the concerns of countries of ‘origin’, ‘transit’, or ‘destination’ alike.”

Commending countries such as Germany, Italy and France for treating migrants with compassion and humanity, the President noted that, “Irregular migration is not a consequence of conflicts alone, but of the effects of climate change and lack of opportunities at home. Climate Change remains one of the greatest challenges of our time. Very close to us at home, it is our lot in Nigeria, together with our neighbours around the Chad Basin, to live with the Climate change consequences of a drastically shrunk Lake Chad and the parching up of otherwise fertile arable lands.”

Painting a distressing picture of The Lake, which was a major source of livelihood to more than 45 million inhabitants of the region, President said the shrinking meant loss of livelihoods as they are now rendered poor and vulnerable to the activities of extremists and terrorist groups.
“The instability thus caused in the sub-region intensified internal displacements leading, among other consequences, to intense economic competition especially between farmers and herdsmen,” he added.

Reiterating Nigeria’s call for a rededicated international engagement to accelerate the recovery efforts in the Lake Chad Basin to address the root causes of the conflicts in the region, the Nigerian leader stressed that:
“What is required is continuous and robust UN cooperation with national Governments and sub-regional and regional organisations such as the Lake Chad Basin Commission, the Economic Community of West African States and the African Union, to enhance capacity in conflict prevention, conflict management and peace building.”

He expressed “heartfelt appreciation to the United Nations, the Governments of Germany, Norway, the United States, Sweden, the United Kingdom, France and a host of other development partners for their laudable support in assisting us to address both the humanitarian challenges and the on-going stabilisation drive in the Lake Chad Basin region.”
Addressing the issue of corruption within countries and illicit flow of funds across national boundaries which, he said, “have huge negative impact on the stability, peace, and economic prospects of millions in developing countries,” the President noted further that, “Corruption significantly deprives national Governments of resources to provide meaningful livelihoods to their populations who are predominantly youths, thus giving rise to more irregular migration.”

Noting that the fight against corruption is a collective assignment involving all stakeholders, he said, “It is in our collective interest to cooperate in tracking illicit financial flows, investigate and prosecute corrupt individuals and entities and repatriate such funds to their countries of origin.”
According to President Buhari, “Fighting corruption or resolving international conflicts, crises and wars; defeating terrorism and piracy; curbing arms trafficking and the proliferation of small arms and light weapons which fuel these conflicts, particularly in Africa; stemming irregular migration by addressing its root causes; and the many other global challenges we are faced with today can only be effectively addressed through multilateral cooperation and concerted action.

“The only global institutional framework we have to address these challenges is the United Nations System. That is why we continue to call for the strengthening of the Organisation and making it more effective by speeding up the pace of progress towards its reform, including that of its principal organ, the Security Council. The reconstitution of the Council to make it more equitable and more representative of our global community is both a political and moral imperative.
“We believe that a reformed Security Council with expanded membership in both the permanent and non-permanent categories, is in accord with prevailing international consensus and it is in our collective interest to do so. It is high time we stopped skirting round the issue and establish achievable benchmarks and time frames for these reforms.”
Giving a background to the call, he said, “I assure you all that in this advocacy, I am only reflecting Nigeria’s deep and abiding commitment to our Organisation and its founding principles and goals. From the date we joined in 1960, we have contributed our quota to the fulfilment of the mandate of the UN. We have been active participants in many Security Council and African Union authorised Peace Keeping operations around the world, beginning with the Democratic Republic of Congo operations in 1960.

“Furthermore, Nigeria has always mobilised the required human and material resources to achieve set United Nations goals, including the recently adopted 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We are resolute in complementing the efforts and examples of the United Nations to promote gender equality and youth empowerment as necessary pillars for sustainable development.”
He noted that, “Without these, there can be neither enduring peace nor security. As we set and implement our national policies to achieve these goals, we, in the spirit of international solidarity, will readily cooperate with other nations seeking to achieve similar goals for their own populations to help ensure that no one is left behind.”

Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger has left everyone in shock following their sudden resignation from Facebook after having a tense relationship with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. They have been working under Facebook for thee past 6 years after Facebook aquired Instagram for a whopping $1 billion. According to a statement released by Kevin Systrom, it says

“Mike and I are grateful for the last eight years at Instagram and six years with the Facebook team. We’ve grown from 13 people to over a thousand with offices around the world, all while building products used and loved by a community of over one billion. We’re now ready for our next chapter”

They also said they were leaving to explore their curiosity and creativity again. According to insiders, tension has been building between Zuckerberg and the Instagram co-founders over the past few months and their relationship has grown cold. This is reportedly as a result of Zuckerberg’s plan to link Facebook and Instagram together thereby allowing Instagram users to share stuff on Facebook which violates the agreement they had with Mark Zuckerberg during the sale of Instagram. As if that was not enough, Zuckerberg also started pushing Facebook notifications inside Instagram and a Facebook button inside Instagram’s settings. Kevin was strongly against it.

Facebook and Instagram had an agreement which stated that Facebook would allow Instagram to operate independently but that had clearly not been the case. This clash also refresh our memories with a similar clash between Mark Zuckerberg and the founders of Whatsapp, Jan Koum and Brian Acton. Acton left a year ago and later tweeted “#deleteFacebook” following how the company handles users data and privacy.

Work on the Apapa-Wharf Concrete Road has been completed, according to a senior engineer with the AG Dangote Construction Company Ltd, contractors handling the project.

With the completion of the road, gridlock on the Apapa Road is expected to ease.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who visited the site on Tuesday, reports that the four-kilometre dual carriageway, built with cement, has a median, walkways and side barriers on the various sections painted in black and white.

Big drainage on both sides has also been completed while street lights have also been erected on Sections one and four of the project.

Interlocking stones are still being laid on about three-quarter of the service lane of out-bound Apapa dual carriageway.

Section one of the project is 520 metres, section two is 450 metres, three is 380 while section four is 650 metres.

The engineer, who did not want his name mentioned, said the concrete road needed to undergo “curing” for a period of time before the road could be opened to traffic, adding that the various sections had different curing periods.

Curing process is the number of days required for concrete to gain enough strength for durability.

He told NAN:“We have completed concrete works on all the four sections. We have also finished work on this Eleganza Roundabout and we are linking the rigid pavement to connecting roads.

“We are only waiting for some sections to `cure’. Curing takes 28 days, some sections have cured but this Eleganza roundabout and some other small portions are still undergoing curing.

“ Concrete on the road is 100 per cent completed and we have started erecting the street lights.

“Section four is the longest of about 650 metres and it has cured completely, all other portions have cured except this roundabout area.

“We are screeding and painting the median barriers and sidewalks at the same time. Screeding is like applying POP or dressing on a surface to make it smooth for painting.

“This project would have been completed but we did not expect the amount of rainfall that came in this month of September.

“Although the rain is not an excuse, but it is disturbing us.”

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, had on June 17, 2017 signed a N4.34 billion Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AG Dangote Construction Company Ltd and some other stakeholders for reconstructing the Apapa-Wharf Road.

The project is being funded by AG Dangote Construction Company Ltd, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc. (NAN)

Meet Veteran Nollywood Actress Funke Kate Adepegba, Kate Adepegba is an actress and production manager, known for The Figurine (2009), Sade (2019) and Kondo olopa (2007).

Kate Adepegba is an actress of long standing, who is totally committed to the arts, Kate’s journey did not start with movies; it started on stage and then during the good old days of television.

Many still recall how she spiced up all the episodes of that longest running television drama, The New Village Headmaster, she featured in.

Kate it was, who lived delightfully the role of Folake, one of dutiful girls that served as apprentice in Sis Clara’s shop as long as it ran on television.

Even Kate agreed that it was her role in that Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) drama that brought her fame and opened doors for other acting opportunities.

Described by close friends as humble, friendly and God-fearing, Kate had her early education in Lagos and worked briefly with the Nigerian Tobacco Company (NTC) before she joined the cast of The New Village Headmaster in 1983.

BACKGROUND
I was born into a family of seven. I am the sixth child. I am in my 40’s. I attended Maryland Convent Private School for my primary school education. From there to Victory High School, Ikeja for my secondary school education. After my secondary school education, I spent two years in a continuing education centre in Abeokuta. I later joined the Nigerian Tobacco Company. I worked with the company for a while before I joined the cast of Village Headmaster. Before I joined the cast, I had done some acting in some of the episodes of The Armchair Theatre which was one of the Nigeria Television Authority Channel 10 drama programmes. In 1983 I started acting in The Village Headmaster. I got the part of Folake, one of Sisi Clara’s Sewing Institute girls.

ACTING CAREER
I have always wanted to be an actress. At a point I wanted to be a linguistic. I read French language in school and I was one of the best students in my school. I had also lived in Porto Novo for a while. I did some courses in French language while I was there. I wanted to be an interpreter. My father gave me a lot of encouragement. When my father died my dream of becoming an interpreter died with him. I had no money to pursue my dreams further; my mum had all of us to take care of and we were very young at that time. I walked on to the set of The New Village Headmaster one day and right there was Uncle Funsho Adeolu.

While my father was alive we lived in the same neighborhood. He was the one that introduced me to Dejumo Lewis the producer of the television programme. One thing led to another and I got the role of Folake. I also featured in one of the best soap operas on NTA Mirror in The Sun. I was a cast of The New Village Headmaster from 1983-1988. While I was on The New Village Headmaster I also featured in other television programmes. I was on Turning Wheel, a Jab Adu production. In May 1988, I left Nigeria for London and enrolled at the London Academy of Administration Studies. I read Business Communication at the Academy between 1988-1992. I came back to Nigeria in 1992. Back in Nigeria, I featured in some episodes of Checkmate. I also starred in Violated and later did some episodes of Palace. I also featured in some home videos.

CHALLENGES
What I earned from New Village Headmaster was N90 per episode. And the role I played was not featured every week of the 13 weeks which makes a quarter. I had a brother in America and a sister in London. And three of my siblings had sickle-cell. So I knew it would be too hard on my mother. There was no way she would have been able to cope with all that and also paying my fees in the university. I just felt it was better for me to work, so I can raise enough money to fend for myself. So I decided it would be easier for me to go into acting. I also did some buying and selling on the side to help pay my bills. Also while in school in London, I worked part-time to help with my tuition fees. Going abroad for me was to get educated so I can live a better life. I had no intention of living abroad. I had a son that I left with my mother. Leaving him to go to the United Kingdom in the first place was not easy for me. I had no choice. I wanted to make something of my life so I had to take that decision.

RELATIONSHIP
As a matter of principle, I don’t talk about my relationships. My son is in his twenties he is a big boy now. I had him while I was in secondary school. But unfortunately his father died before he was born. My parents were not happy with me for that. But I told them that was what I wanted at that time and I assured them that my pregnancy was not an hindrance from achieving my goals in life. I was 16 years old when I had my son with his father dead. I knew I had to wake up to my responsibilities to him as my child. I knew I had to strive to be a role model. I concentrated on my education and I excelled. I knew I needed to attain a certain level for me to start thinking of going into a relationship. So I never really got into any kind of serious relationship until I travelled to the United Kingdom. And the relationship I had at that time was a set back for me. I was in the relationship for a couple of years and it really didn’t work out. He was unfaithful to me. I stayed off men until I later met somebody else in London. He doesn’t live in London he only came on holiday.

I once dated an actor, years back. But it was not an interesting affair. And I will never do that again. I went out with him while we were both a cast of the New Village Headmaster. That relationship was not what I wanted for myself, but for me to know if it was right for me or not, I needed to be in it. The relationship lasted a year. I was a young girl at that time and I was a bit gullible. It had nothing to do with love. I was never in love with him.

MARRIAGE
I see marriage as something that is ordained by God. It is all in God’s hand. At His own appointed time it will happen. I don’t believe in pushing for anything. I believe in things happening naturally. Besides I don’t see marriage as a big deal. Friendship is more important. We started out as good friends and we still are that is more important to me. If God says marriage will come it will.

NOLLYWOOD
The Nigeria movie industry has come a long way. A lot of changes have taken place. Nigerian artistes are hard working. We now have a lot of professionals. Acting is now on a different level from what it used to be. The exposure is more than what it was back then. Then there were no awards. We didn’t have people living abroad calling us to come receive awards. But now, there are so many awards both at home and abroad. They have more opportunity to be exposed internationally than we had.

SEX FOR ROLE
Honestly an actress will be slept with if she wants to be slept with. I remember back then the actors and actresses I worked with were professionals not mediocres. I worked with the likes of Femi jarret, Jab Adu just to mention few. So when I hear about sexual harassment in the industry it baffles me. And it doesn’t have to be like that if you don’t want it to. Not all movie producers and directors sexually harass actresses. Sexual harassment is not restricted to the movie industry alone other industries are no exception
