Peter and Paul Okoye were a Nigerian R&B set of identical twin brothers popularly known as Psquare. They are famous for their talent of singing and dancing their career was managed by their elder brother Jude Okoye through Square Records.
They also signed a record deal with convert music label owned by Akon in December 2011, and in May 2012, they signed a record deal with universal music South Africa.
Biography
Peter Okoye and his twin brother were born on November 18, 1981, in Anambra state, eastern Nigeria and the lived there for a while before, their parents decided to move to Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria.
They are a native of the Dunu, Anambra State of Nigeria. They had their secondary education in Murrumba secondary school, a Catholic School in Jos. Peter and Paul join the school drama club and music he began singing dancing and mimicking Michael Jackson as their role model according to them.
Career
The music and dance performance made them popular in the city of Jos, where they performed at school functions and other locations.
In 1999, Peter and Paul attended music School to develop their skills on the keyboard reading guitar bass and drums.
They made soundtracks for a couple of films like Mama Sunday, Moment of bitterness Eva’s river, and Tobi.
P-Square enrolled at the University of Abuja in the later part of 1999 to study business administration.
The Smooth Criminal’s disbanded, when they all left to various universities, the group consists of five performers.
Peter and Paul named their group Double P, P&P, and eventually settled on P-Square. In 2001, P-Square won a competition. Therefore, Benson and Hedges sponsored their debut album titled “Last Night,” which was released under Timbuktu music label, they also got a nomination as the Most Promising African Group in the Kora Awards.
Three months after they released their debut album, which won the 2003 Amen award for the best R&B group.
In 2005, P-Square relocated to Lagos. Their second album “get squared” was released under their own Square Records Label, they also released their best-selling album so far “game over” in 2007, which sold over 8 million copies worldwide followed by their fourth studio album “danger” released in 2009 the album featured collaborations with 2Face Idibia, J Martins and Frenzy.
In 201, they featured the top American artist T.I with the song titled “eje ajo”.
Personal Life
They are both happily married, each with kids. Peter Okoye married on November 17, 2013, to his longtime girlfriend to Lola Loretta Omotayo. The couple has two kids, a son and a daughter Cameron and Aliona Cameron were born in 2008 before their wedding in 2013.
On March 22, 2014, Paul Okoye got married to Anita Isama, whom he met in 2004 while attending school in the University of Abuja; they have a son Andre and a set of twins in 2018.
Separation
Peter and Paul separated in 2016 allegedly over a disagreement about the role of their management.
Peter Okoye was said to have sent a termination letter to the group’s lawyer, saying his brother canceled the tour they were supposed to have in US and also disregards respect for his wife and kids on social media. He also said the elder brother Jude Okoye threatened to kill him and his wife.
