Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested two suspects, who were allegedly on their way to bomb a community in Orlu town, Punch Metro reports.

The state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, who paraded the suspects on Wednesday in Owerri, said they came from Ebonyi State to carry out the planned bombing.

The CP gave the names of the suspects as Friday Echereobia, 28, and Ozioma Nwosu, 30.

The police boss said, “The operatives of the Police Mobile Force 18 Squadron during a routine stop and search duty at their checkpoint by the UBA junction in Orlu, arrested the suspects, who were on a motorcycle and in possession of a suspicious looking object.

“Upon discrete interrogation and investigation, the object was discovered to be an Improvised Explosive Device or homemade bomb.”

“The suspects revealed that the IED was handed over to them on November 7, at Effiong in Ebonyi State, where they converge to hold their meetings, and from where they moved down to Ihiagwa, Owerri West LGA in Imo State and given the IED by one Chijioke Jimmy, an indigene of Ebonyi State, who is resident in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.”

Meet The Late Indonesian Maid Tuti Tursilawati Who Was Executed For Killing Her Saudi Arabian Boss. Tuti Tursilawati was born on (6 June 1984 in Cikeusik, West Java, Indonesia[ in Ta’if was an Indonesian housekeeper who was executed on October 29, 2018 in Saudi Arabia, executed on October 29, 2018 in Saudi Arabia.

In 2011 she was convicted for the murder of her employer Suud Malhaq Al Utaibi, who she had been serving since 2009 and who would have sexually abused her.

  Former president of Indonesia Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie and high-ranking personalities were committed to the pardon of Tursilawati. Indonesia’s government submitted both legal forms and a letter to King Salman of Saudi Arabia objecting to the death sentence, but was not informed about the upcoming execution.

  President Joko Widodo protested in a telephone conversation with Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir against the execution. He also ordered the Saudi Ambassador to Jakarta. The Indonesian organization Migrant CARE called for the termination of agreements on Indonesian labor between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. Local and international human rights organizations called for better protection for guest workers in Saudi Arabia.

  Tursilawati was already the third housekeeper to be executed in 2018 in Saudi Arabia.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo said Wednesday that he had called the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, Adel al-Jubeir, to file a complaint and demand to know why Indonesia had not been notified that Tuti Tursilawati was to be executed .

In a statement, Widodo said he had raised the issues surrounding Tursilawati’s case when Jubeir visited Indonesia last week and that the case had been brought up repeatedly with other Saudi officials, including King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, director of the Indonesian foreign ministry’s citizens protection department, told reporters on Tuesday the move was “regrettable”.

“The execution of Tuti Tursilawati was done without notification to our representatives, either in Riyadh or Jeddah,” he said at a press conference.

Hikmahanto Juwana, an expert in international law at the University of Indonesia, told The Jakarta Post that Riyadh had “violated the norms of international relations” by not informing Indonesia that the execution was imminent.

Tursilawati claimed she was acting in self defence when she killed her employer in 2010 after he tried to rape her.

Migrant Care, an NGO advocating for the rights of Indonesian workers abroad, condemned the execution and urged the government to take serious diplomatic steps.

Activists say migrant workers in Saudi Arabia can be exploited under its visa sponsorship system, known as kafala. The kafala system is used in several Persian Gulf states.

The Saudi government has made some efforts to reform the system, including setting up a website to inform foreigners of their rights, and some Saudis have called for it to be scrapped.

EFCC, Ibadan Office, has confirmed the arrest of 34 suspected internet fraudsters at 21, Sawmill Road Awa-Ijebu, Ogun State, as against the 9 that we initially reported.

The suspected cyber criminals who are between 19 and 37 years of age include: 23 students of Olabisi Onabanjo University, out of which 9 were ladies who allegedly claimed to be girlfriends and or neighbours of some of the suspects; one from the National Open University of Nigeria and 12 others are non-students. .

The Commission got wind of their activities through series of intelligence alleging that the suspected fraudsters engaged in fraudulent activities of obtaining money by false pretences through sending emails to unsuspecting victims mostly in the U.S while others were engaged in romance scam on several dating sites.

At the point of arrest, EFCC operatives recovered over 300 SIM cards from them. Other items recovered from the suspects include: different models and brands of exotic cars, 18 laptops, 50 phones and two bags of charms from them. .

A Japanese Minister, Yoshitaka Sakurada in charge of the Government’s cybersecurity strategy has drawn controversy after admitting that he has never used a computer.

Sakurada, 68, said this during a parliamentary session that he has never used a computer in his life, as he “has been doing business independently since 25 years old and has been giving instructions to staff and secretaries.’’

When asked by independent lawmaker Masato Imai about how a man who does not use computers could be responsible for cybersecurity measures, Sakurada said that cybersecurity is “a matter that should be dealt with by the government as a whole’’ and that he is confident that he is not at fault.

Sakurada was appointed the minister in charge of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as cyber minister in October in a Cabinet reshuffled after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was re-elected head of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

The minister from the ruling LDP has been known for a long time for his ill-advised comments, most notably in 2016 when he claimed that “comfort women,’’ women forced into sexual slavery by the Imperial Japanese Army before and during World War II, were “prostitutes by occupation.’’

He later retracted the remarks.

How Tosyn Bucknor died battling sickle cell crisis

According to a report, Tosyn had battled sickle cell crisis in the last three weeks preceding her death.

A source at Inspiration FM told TheNet that Tosyn was excused from work to recover but didn’t return.

“It is a difficult time for every one of us at Inspiration FM because we did not see it coming. The last time she was here was three weeks ago. She had been excused from work because she had another crisis but we thought she would pull through as she usually did, but we did not know that was the last time we would see her,” the source was quoted as saying.

The late OAP was married to a French man Aurelien Boyer in 2015.

A terrible news to hear today is the demise of OAP with Inspiration FM, Oluwatosin “Tosyn” Bucknor.

Tosyn was found dead by her husband Aurelien Boyer when he arrived from work Monday night.

Tosyn was born with sickle cell anaemia and was a graduate of law from the University of Lagos.

Tosyn Bucknor was not just an OAP; she was a writer, singer, songwriter, lawyer and activist. She packed an entire lifetime of living into the 37 years she lived.

Her voice woke millions of people up daily and her work, such as the THESE GENES project she started to raise awareness for people living with sickle cell anaemia, a debilitating disease she had battled since birth.

Hunger and poverty are some of the biggest threats that threaten the peaceful lives of developing countries. It also happens to affect children the most in terms of education, survival, health and nutrition, participation and protection from harm and exploitation.

Well we here at SFAM refuse to sit by and let such things befall our beloved planet and that’s why we’ve prepared a list of some of the most effective ways to alleviate hunger and evidently, poverty.

1. Block Speculators

Ever since the financial crisis, large sums of investment fund money have gone into commodities markets, looking for returns that are no longer available in equities. Besides that, automated trading systems that encourage volatility and exploit tiny flaws in the market make it impossible for traditional traders to keep prices stable and hedge against spikes.

• 2. Prevent Land Grabbing

One of the biggest scares over future food supply is wealthy, land-poor states, like the ones in South Korea and the Gulf, that acquire tracts of undeveloped countries to use as allotments. This is a campaigning cause of the multi-charity IF campaign in their fight against hunger. Sudan, Ethiopia, Cambodia, and Madagascar have been targeted and a total area that is the size of Spain might have already been acquired.

• 3. Stop the Meat Production

In case you didn’t know, meat production is a wasteful use of the planet’s scarce resources. Even as we speak, there is only 40% of the graze that is able to livestock and fish. Intensive beef farming is the most inefficient as it has been shown that only 2.5% of the feed that is given to cattle emerge as calories for our consumption.

This is why the United Nations says that agriculture production will rise to 60% in order to feed 2 billion extra mouths in 2050.

• 4. Make Less BioFuel

The more carbon is emitted from fossil fuels, the more rich countries turn maize, sugar and other food crops into biodiesel and ethanol.

The problem is that most economists don’t see how important this issue is in food price rises. Fuel and food prices are inextricably linked, hence producing biofuel may produce lower food prices.

A fraction of food crops have always been used for energy. Like when 10% of the world’s crops were used to feed horses 100 years ago. However second-generation biofuel won’t require food crops, but stalks, wood, and other waste.

• 5. Focus on Infant Nutrition

Bill Gates once told the London summit as well as many other rich nations and companies that were backing an African government-led plan that “getting rid of malnutrition is possible and that it’s within our reach. Major improvements have already been made.

However, the solution to this lies in education on excellent feeding techniques and getting the right nutrients to the mother and her unborn child at the start of pregnancy.

Malnutrition makes people poorer as it is responsible for an 11% decline in GDP in affected countries.

• 6. Support Small Farmers

Most of the African farmers of today are less productive than a US farmer was over 100 years ago. There is a general agreement between the government and NGOs that supporting and training small farmers is the best solution possible for future food security.

A mix of education in low-tech methods like better rice planting and irrigation, aid, and the introduction of better fertilizer and seeds could spark a green revolution in Africa and other poorer countries that are heavily affected by poverty and hunger. This would have the same effect as it did for South Asia in the 20th century.

The problem lies with rich countries as they have proven to be terrible at delivering on their aid pledges. Genetically modified crops are already part of the issue.
